Cork light-mount

cork shim to make a handlebar-mount light fit on a front rack

A light handlebar mount is shimmed to fit a Blackburn front rack with an Argyle champagne cork.

I also made a Korbel one for a trip down to Sonoma County.

The trick is pretty simple – cut a groove in the cork, tape it to the rack, and mount the light to it as if it were a handlebar. Wrap a little handlebar tape over the rack first, to keep the cork from rotating.

The (super-heavy lead-acid) battery goes in the Carradice bag. Two toe-straps secure it to the wooden dowel the bag hangs from. Strapping it up like that keeps it from banging around, and seems to take up less room.

  1. Hi Cycle Jerk – sorry for the long delay. I just discovered that there were some gems in my pending comments.
Corks are key. I should have a category on here just for them. I use them as fender spacers, bar-end plugs, and to store recycled bar tape.
